Purpose and use case

Why this project was built

Built for families who want a clear emergency-access plan for money set aside by an overseas worker, while keeping the normal experience simple for non-technical relatives.

Overview

What the project is

Sagip explores a family financial-safety workflow for overseas workers and their loved ones. A sender sets aside funds and keeps control by checking in periodically; if the check-in window expires, the selected beneficiary can claim the balance under rules enforced by Stellar testnet predicates.

Problem

What it is designed to solve

Families may depend on funds controlled by someone working abroad, but access can become difficult during hospitalization, loss of communication, or another emergency. Traditional account sharing also creates security and trust problems.

Approach

How the project addresses it

Sagip models the arrangement with Stellar claimable balances. The owner can reclaim or renew the balance through an I am okay check-in, the primary beneficiary can claim after the deadline, and an optional backup beneficiary can continue the same safety rule after receipt.

Key features

  • Time-based family safety nets using Stellar claimable balances
  • Periodic owner check-ins that atomically reclaim and recreate balances
  • Primary and backup beneficiary succession workflows
  • Guided wallet onboarding, multiple wallets, and recovery-key controls
  • Separate admin authentication with transaction and safety-net inspection
  • Real testnet transactions, explorer links, and end-to-end settlement testing

Architecture highlights

  • Native Stellar predicates enforce claim timing without a custom smart contract
  • Frontend and backend workspaces separate the mobile experience from custody and domain services
  • AES-256-GCM protects testnet account secrets before database storage
  • Every safety net remains associated with the wallet that created it even when active wallets change

Engineering challenges

  • Making wallet and recovery-key behavior understandable for elderly or non-technical family members
  • Handling custodial testnet keys responsibly while being explicit that the system is not ready for real funds
  • Representing emotionally sensitive emergency and succession scenarios without making guarantees the prototype cannot support

Implemented outcomes

  • Implemented the complete set-aside, check-in, lapse, claim, and backup-beneficiary lifecycle on Stellar testnet
  • Added transaction history, explorer verification, wallet management, account recovery, and a separate admin panel
  • Documented onboarding, custody, funding, succession, demonstrations, and the remaining production requirements
